Munich is already famous for alternative surfing, with its Eisbach river wave popular with locals. However, a new option has been brought to the landlocked German city with the introduction of the O2 Surftown Muc which uses Endless Surf wave technology.
The new wave pool can generate waves up to 2.1 metres in height and 18 seconds in length. It is due to open to the public during the upcoming European summer.
German surfer and former Olympian Leon Glatzer was among the first to try the wave. He said: ‘Seeing first waves break in my hometown was a truly unforgettable experience. It was incredible to see the precision and power that ES holds while working alongside engineers to fine-tune waves. They’ve already created insane wave settings, just barely scratching the surface in terms of what’s possible.’
