I can still remember the first time I saw Kelly Slater ride a wave. It was his section in Taylor Steele’s original Momentum, and as a young grom it blew my mind. His approach, style, and flow were like nothing I’d seen before. It turned the mostly animalistic power-based surfing of the time on its head. It was smooth, it was graceful, and he slid his tail!
Now, at almost 50 years-of-age, Kelly is still blowing my mind. In the right waves, his approach is just as beautiful and graceful. This recent session, captured by Jack Coleman in Hawaii, is case in point.
It shows a free Kelly. No contest, no pressure. Just Kelly, a board and some juicy waves.
