Reading Time: 1 minute
Less than two weeks after The Eddie was called on and then subsequently cancelled we’re back here once again. The Eddie has been called on for the 22nd of January. For the people of Australia that’s Monday, the 23rd , which means you may have to take a sickie.
The ‘Green’ call seems more legit this time with Clyde Aikau going on Hawaiian News Network Khon to share that, ” Yes the Eddie will go on Sunday.” Where else do surf legends get to share the floor with network weathermen in prime time?
Clyde also claims that the forecasters predict the swell to be at least 20-25 feet on the day, and unlike the previous call, it’s meant to be straight offshore. They’re expecting similar conditions to 2009 when Greg Long won.
Makua Rothman also shared the heat draws on his Instagram today.
It promises to be a wild Monday for sports fans and a horrible one if you’re trying to run a business. Those practised in the art of discreet office viewing will be able to switch back and forth between The Eddie (hopefully) and the NFL playoffs (Go the 49ers!).
The broadcast for the event will be made available to the public via the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational website. A reminder not to get your hopes up or schedule a sickie in just yet, as event officials can call it off on the day if they’re not satisfied with the size or the conditions.
Please Huey, do this one for me?
