As a teenager Ben Brown got his kicks out of sketching caricatures of his schoolmates Barton Lynch and Simon Jones (Shaper of Morning of The Earth Surfboards). Actually, nobody was safe from the wild imagination and wickedly skilled drawing fingers of the Sydney surfer. Once he left school, it wasn’t long before Brown was taking commissions from bands to create an interesting image that somehow reflected their vibe and sound. As Brown’s reputation grew, big-name acts like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and the Pixies were soon commissioning him to draw tour posters and t-shirt prints. Most recently it was Elton John who followed the yellow brick road to Brown’s door to give his Farewell Tour Down Under a distinctive look and feel. Brown’s work has also seeped heavily into surf culture over the past three decades. Everything from iconic surf tees to cartoons that prompted pro-surfing dummy spits are part of his expansive portfolio. A life-long shredder, Brown rarely starts a day’s work without a morning surf and when you meet him you get the impression you are talking to someone who has figured out a way to make a living doing something they genuinely love
