At 17-years-old Ned Hart is one of the most accomplished young big wave surfers on the planet. He grew up in Western Australia which is renowned for heavy waves. But even before he can exit his teenage years he’s ticked off spots like Chopes, Shipsterns and Waimea.
The pinnacle of his young career came at 16-years-old when he went viral online during a Shipsterns session. Ned took off and air dropped down the Shipsterns step like a skateboarder ollying a small set of stairs, and then pulled behind the curtain of an evil looking barrel before being blown out into the channel.
The wave recently won him the Big Wave Challenge 2023 Young Gun Award. In Ned’s latest Youtube edit he can be seen collecting the accolade during the event held at Nazare. This is also gave him the opportunity to tick off the Portuguese monster as another wave ridden. That session is also seen in the clip.
