As surfers we're lucky enough to travel to some of the most far flung corners of the globe. A surf trip in tropical paradise often evokes feelings of warm sun, perfect waves and palm trees swaying in the breeze. But in places like Indonesia behind the perfect waves and smiles from locals there are big issues affecting the community. Nearly two out of every three children are underweight, malnourished or stunted. However, there are organisations trying to turn that around.
SurfAid was founded by Dr. Dave Jenkins, who 18 years ago on a surf trip to the Mentawai discovered that life for the locals was wrought with preventable death and disease. Carrying with him a heavy heart and tenacious conscience, Dave realised he could.
SurfAid has just launched their Never Forget the Locals campaign and are asking you to help make a difference. With your support SurfAid is able to improve the health and resilience of people living in isolated communities connected to us though surfing and increase the likelihood that locals will thrive.
You can make a tax deductible donation to SurfAid, purchase a Never Forget the Locals tee or visit www.surfaid.org to see what SurfAid is doing to Never Forget the Locals.
