You would know the name Jai Abberton for various reasons. He starred alongside brothers Sunny and Koby in the Bra Boys movie and his chequered past has led him to feel the full force of the law on more than one occasion. However true stories of redemption do exist and for the past two years Jai has found God, converted to Muslim and embraced his new found religion with open arms. He’s currently fasting for Ramadan and yesterday showed up at Cape Fear and surfed it like only an expert knows how. Photographer Jordan Barta froze this moment and recounts the day’s action. “I sat out there shooting for 6 hours it was very slow between the big ones but it was worth the wait. People were wondering why the Cape fear wasn’t on and in Mark Matthews words, because it’s called cape fear not cape fun, we want bigger and scarier. It was good to see Jai back in the water again. I haven’t seen him around for ages. This was his first tow wave of the session and it was a thumper, I remember everyone on the rocks cheering and going crazy when it spat him out.”
