Beachgoers rescue a Great White in Cape Cod
With all the shark hysteria currently outpouring around the globe it’s good to see at least one feel good story come out this week. On Monday in Catham, Massachusetts, beachgoers discovered a seven-foot juvenile Great White beached on the shore after unsuccessfully chasing seagulls. Instead of freaking out people doused the shark with water to keep it alive until the authorities arrived to drag it back to shore. The shark lived and a whole lot of people got some good karma.

After 28 months of R&D Kelly’s new brand Outerknown is officially open for business. Announced on Kelly’s preferred method for press releases – his Instagram account – boy did it light up with a mix of opinions. Some people are seriously unhappy about the pricing. Read our full story here.
J-Bay is on and the upsets keep coming.
Tracks correspondent Craig Jarvis has been in the J-Bay trenches providing a unique local’s perspective on the WSL circus. Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s ensued so far: Kolohe Andino threw a tantrum after narrowly losing to Kelly Slater. Hometown favourite Jordy Smith woes continue after another early round exit. Parko deftly put together some of the most flawless surfing all year before bowing out to Brazilian rookie Wiggolly Dantas in a scratchy heat. Filipe Toledo went home with a 13th courtesy of fellow Brazilian (and good mate) Alejo Muniz who lit up the Baii with a 9-point ride at the death of their round two heat.
Three surfers, fifteen world titles, one heat.
It’s a statistician’s dream. All eyes will be glued to the round four battle between Mick Fanning, Kelly Slater and Gabriel Medina when competition resumes at the J-Bay Open. Buoyed by a favourable forecast it could provide the fireworks that has so far escaped one of the most celebrates events of the season.
