One of surfing’s most talented families, the Crews, have gotten together to create a film about the team at ACSOD’. ACSOD, short for ‘Alex Crews Shapes or Die’, is a unique surfboard brand. You could call it a family business. Alex, the founder and head shaper, pro surfer Mitch and film creator Thomas are brothers and all contribute to the brand.
Alex has a solid group of team riders to show off his crafts headlined by his older bro and former CT surfer Mitch Crews. ACSOD also has one of Australia’s slickest free-surfer, Toby Mossop, and some high-level shredders in Hinata Aizawa and Lewie Dunn riding their boards. The film documents the ACSOD story and their travels worldwide with some good old drunk comedy to complement the surfing.
Mitch shared with Tracks his experience working with his brothers and the ACSOD crew.
“I guess collaborating with my brothers has been fucking really good at times and not so good haha. Just like when you’re beefing with one another over absolute nonsense as kids. But this project has been special for us because we all have played a big part in some way.
Alex, first of all, shaping the boards and becoming what I believe one of the next big Australian board shapers to start mixing it with the big guys. Then Thomas who stands on the beach all day filming all of the team and crew, then countless hours in the editing bay to bring this video to life. This is Tom’s first major project and he nailed it. And for me, basically being able to work on a project with a young crew like Toby Mossop and everyone involved, that hits home a little more and try and showcase my surfing on my brother’s boards and how good they go to the world. I don’t do much stuff nowadays, but to do this with my brothers and this epic little team Alex has on ACSOD would definitely be a big highlight of my career.”
Enjoy!
