This slab-loving crew certainly sucked the marrow out of May’s uninterrupted run of swell in Oz. The Longbottom’s, Jerome Sahyoun, Nathan Florence and Kipp Caddy plus the inclusion of Tassie up-and-comer Noah Hassett, were back on the chase, this time in South Oz.
Some of the crew had paddling ambitions once they made it to the shallow slab. But after two hours of no success, those hustling in the line-up ditched the paddling and called for the rope.
Nathan Florence and Kipp Caddy’s best rides were nothing short of ridiculous. You could legitimately fit a small boat in the thick pits that they somehow navigated through. Shippies charger Noah Hassett, was a standout in the session with his heroics efforts on a few bombs. Meanwhile, Moroccan big-wave surfer Jerome Sahyoun has fallen in with Australia and it’s collection of slabs. A stoked-out Sahyoun spoke to Tim Bonython after the session. The big-wave pilgrim claimed he scored some of the best rides of his life at the South Oz slab and that this wave was scarier than Chopes
While, there were big highs for some of the crew, Dylan Longbottom was the one who dealt with the lows. The big-wave surfer/shaper suffered a gnarly wipeout on his first and only wave in the session. After the heavy fall he knew something wasn’t right around his chest area. Once back home in Taren Point he headed to the hospital, where Dylan was put into ICU and learnt that he punctured a lung and suffered four broken ribs. Gnarly!
Enjoy the madness!
