Big-wave surfers, YouTube Vloggers, videographers, adrenalin junkies, attention seekers and surf purists’ have all landed in the Northern Hemisphere for Nazare season. Every year the diverse crew flock up with the same goal. To be a part of history and either ride, film or witness the biggest wave of all time.
After refreshing the YouTube search bar like a lunatic to find some content for you guys on the first XL session of the big wave season. This shmick edit finally popped up from yesterday’s session of the season-opening swell.
Nazare is starting to look like its scary and beautiful self; yesterday’s evening session saw 40-footers rolling through. Elite big-wave surfers such as Lucas Chumbo, Nic Von Rupp, Mason Barnes, Justine Dupont, Sebastian Steudtner and more were involved in the tense tow rotation.
Joli snatched this one of Lucas Chumbo from yesterday’s session, with the photographer sharing these thought on his instagram.
“The first day of shooting some action at Nazaré. The swell was clean and on the rise at first light, and it wasn’t till after lunch that the tow teams hit the line up. The swell built through the afternoon with 40′ plus faces on the sets.”
Stay tuned, as the swell is supposed to be significantly larger tomorrow. Videographer Tim Bonython, who’s filming at the big-wave spot claims that tomorrow is expected to be “two metres bigger.”
Enjoy the gnarliness!
