The big-wave world had their attention on Tahiti this week, with many travelling to the French Island hoping to score giant Chopes. Despite a pretty incredible session going down (highlights above), it was a bit of a let-down for the pros as the waves weren’t as big as it was forecasted. You could call it Code Red(ish).
A big shout-out goes to Aussie charger Summa Longbottom, who made her debut at the big-wave spot and was filmed taking on a XL solid set. While local charger Eimeo Czermak arguably scored the standout wave from the swell with this mind-blowing effort.
The day after this session, the people of Teahupo’o woke up to a living nightmare. Flash floods ravaged the surf village, causing severe damage to the local’s houses and possessions. Cars were hovering in the line-up where surfers usually sit. If you are able to donate anything, there is Leetchi (French version of GoFundMe). Click here to donate or to find more info.
Thanks to Nathan Florence aka surfing’s content machine for once again providing cracking footage (video above) for the people. The Hawaiian recently departed Oz as he continued his slab tour in Tahiti. Check out Tracks latest article of Florence, where we went behind the scenes of one of Nate’s Oz slab sessions.
