WATCH: JORDY SMITH IN SILVER LININGS EPISODE 4

Featuring the wave that crushed Jordy's Olympic dreams

Jordy grew up in Durban, surfing fun beach breaks and long, sandy points, which makes a lot of sense when you look at his style and approach to surfing, and he sure knows it “I think the place you grow up and the style of waves you grow up surfing definitely moulds you to the type of surfer you become.” This phenomenon is evident in most surfers; look at Connor Coffin, and his drawn-out Rincon-bred lines or Mick Fanning and his sharp forehand attack, groomed by the steep perfection of the superbank. It makes a lot of sense really, the waves you surf in your formative years shape the surfer you become.

In Silver Lining’s episode 4, Jordy is back at his hometown, where he scores pumping beachies and some sizable ramps for the big man to huck himself into until he gets a little too comfortable and winds up with an Olympic dream ending injury.
