Ahh the Mentawai Islands, the once playground that hosted thousands of surfers each year, but now only plays host to a lucky few who can wrangle their way through an international travel network choked by COVID.
Make it through though and surfing Nirvana is yours. All the waves are still there, still pumping, just minus the hordes.
Barron Mamiya was one of the lucky ones. Living his Mentawai fantasy. However, after watching this clip it’s safe to say he wasn’t there for the tubes. Barron was there to throw himself into the air over the biggest sections he could find, and he found a lot of them.
