WATCH: A BEHIND THE SCENES LOOK INTO NATHAN FLORENCE’S XL IRISH SLAB SESSION

The story behind one of the best waves of his life.

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Nate’s travelling around the globe for two things, massive barrels and to attain more YouTube views than JOB. Like his brother, when he puts his mind to something, he is usually successful. In this pursuit, the Hawaiian found himself in the line-up at the scary Irish slab Mullaghmore. Nathan copped a few wipe-outs until he was generously given the all-clear to have a go at the biggest set of the session. And the rest was history. The Irish locals couldn’t help their hospitable selves and give Nathan the wave of the day.

Nate was grinning from ear to ear and shared a hilarious reaction after riding one of the best waves of his life.

“When I pulled up, I was like, oh my god, I went too high, then it just sucked me up into the face into the barrel, then I’m like I’m done right now. I’m just gonna hold on, and the foam ball shot up and hit me, my tail like slid for just a second and then caught again. I just rode down, and then I was like, oh now I’m going to be cooked, then the foam ball just hit under my board and then just shoved me out of it, then I was like oh my god, I might make this. And it just spits and blows my (eye) contacts out.”

Nate’s got to be up there as the best big wave barrel rider in the world right now. Him and his bro are close on that rankings…

Enjoy.
