Tyler’s experienced the highs and the lows that come with being a famous surfer since being a young grom. The 28-year-old’s reached the peak of pro surfing, becoming a two-time world champ and picking up 14 CT event wins in the process. Tyler’s also faced immense adversity in the last few years. She developed a chronic fatigue syndrome in 2018 after catching influenza in Africa, which left her bedridden for months. The rough times didn’t end there, with her bookkeeper, a family friend, jailed this year after stealing $1.5 million from Tyler and her brothers’ bank accounts.
Despite all this, it was all smiles and tears of joy this week as Tyler tied the knot with her partner Lilli Baker on Tuesday.
Tyler spoke to the Sydney Morning Herald about the love affair with her partner, whom she only met a year ago.
“Lily is just a vibe. She was working in a cafe in Newcastle [in 2021] when I was in town for a contest. I felt so respected and appreciated [by her]. Eventually, I asked her out, she said yes and here we are.”
“There’s genuineness, love, respect and appreciation. Being with someone who encourages you to be more you is always a good time.”
The extended Wright family, Steph Gilmore and WSL ‘s Head of Competition Jesse Miley-Dyer were some of those present at the ceremony.
Miley- Dyer shared these words on her Instagram.
“Words can’t express how proud I am. Thank you for including the three of us to witness your special day (…we all cried haha).”
Tyler’s Search accomplice, Mick Fanning, also chimed in on Tyler’s Instagram post.
“Beautiful. Congrats to both. Wish you all the very best.”
Tracks send congrats and best wishes to Tyler, Lili and the Wright family. It will be interesting to see how a married Tyler Wright fares on the tour next year.
