“Bettylou Sakura Johnson late entry at Backdoor. We had perfect light that morning and not a cloud in the sky. I swam out about 7:30. The morning light hits Off the Wall and Backdoor first at about five to eight. Then by around five or ten past eight the light hits Pipe. When a set comes through it looks sick because the light funnels straight down the valley. Bettylou was really charging Backdoor that morning and that wetsuit just made everything pop.”
