For those who witnessed them burst onto the scene in the early 90s, the Momentum Generation redefined the way we looked at surfing forever.

I can still remember watching Momentum for the first time as a grom. A mate had just bought it from the local surf shop and we gathered around to watch at his house. The footage was raw, showcased at normal speed and shot entirely from the beach. A complete contrast to the diet of slow-mo Jack McCoy and Rip Curl Search flicks that were were used to consuming. The surfing was radical, and unlike anything we’d seen before. We’d hoot and holler at every tail slide and air. Combined with the relentless tempo of Pennywise, Bad Religion and Sprung Monkey to name a few … it rocked our entire world.

The surfers featured became household names overnight, and many of them would go on to dominate the surfing world for the next decade. Some still at the peak of the sport today, including Shane Dorian, Rob Machado and Kelly Slater, the most dominant surfer in the history of the sport.

Momentum generation lifts a lid on the meteoric rise of this group of friends to surf stardom, and

shows the deep friendships that were formed and tested throughout their careers as top athletes and cultural icons.

Written and directed by award-winning filmmakers Jeff and Michael Zimbalist (The Two Escobars, Favela Rising) and from executive producer Robert Redford. It’s a must watch for any fan of surfing.
