During the Easter weekend some of the biggest names in blues, funk, roots and soul will take to the stage for the 35th anniversary of the Byron Bay Bluesfest. Spanning five days, the festival will run from Thursday 28 March to Monday 1 April and features household names such as Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Jimmy Barnes and Tom Jones. As well as popular artists like Ziggy Alberts and The Tesky Brothers.
There’s nothing quite like the footloose atmosphere and sense of euphoria that Bluesfest brings. More than a music event, it’s a state of mind where you can lose yourself in the live performances, tap into the collective energy of a spellbound crowd and disconnect from reality for a few days. Get up close for the artist you really want to see, or wander between the seven stages, enjoying the eclectic array of music featured in over 200 performances. Ultimately, the festival site is a 120 hectare musical wonderland that’s yours to roam.

Festival goers can camp using their own set up or enjoy the ready-made-fun of a pre-built tee-pee. Anyone wishing to camp in their caravans, motor homes or camper trailers has to purchase a large vehicle pass.
Elsewhere on the line-up, Robert Trujillo, famously known as the bass player for Metallica, will be joined by band members from Velvet Revolver, Suicidal tendencies and Slip Knot to create punk-funk super group “Infectious Grooves”.
Tim Finn, Tommy Emmanuel and Petter Garrett are all familiar names I’d love to see live. Meanwhile, I have no idea what the Blind Boys of Alabama sound like, but on the strength of the name alone I’m curios to find out. English singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner, who is known for his hit “Dream catch me”, is another on my festival hit-list.
