Multi-talented Manly local Benjamin Serrano runs the Deadies’ gauntlet and wins

We all knew it was coming. Like a jet plane flying in reverse, this storm / swell announced itself long before it was visible. Sydney (and other east coast towns) were warned to “baton down the hatches”. While shop owners were worried about their awnings and glass shop fronts, game surfers were calculating which of the few places that thrive in large southerly swells and winds would be working.
Deadmans – around from the famous (and somewhat tamer) Fairy Bower at South Manly – is one such spot. Its location is no secret – still participants are few and for good reason. Getting out there involves either a treacherous rock dance and jump, or a heinously long paddle from Shelley Beach.
The star of this mornings session was Dayyan Neve, the former ASP world tour surfer turned Real Estate agent. That was until former world tour masseuse and acupuncturist, Benny Serrano, dodged and weaved his way out of this handsome mutant.
Benny is a likable bloke with many more “mad skills” besides surfing and healing with his hands (playing violin and a kicking arse as a trained martial arts specialist just two of those extra activities).
But today’s all about celebrating Benny’s storm surfing abilities – bravo Buddy!
[Note: check his kick boxing match with former hit-man and glorified Underbelly character Andrew “Benji” Veniamin after sequence – which he wins!]
