A few hours drive north from Padang is the lesser known spot called Medewi – a fun left hand point.
The Rip Curl Cup is suffering a frustrating wait. The swell predictions are not too promising and with just eight days left in the waiting period in which to hold the event I (like many others), am praying Huey sends a big swell ASAP. The last three weeks have seen only one day of note – 3-4ft Padang Padang. Many tasting its delights that day but contest organizers held out as they require a good 6-8ft swell to make it a true tube riding event. There are many waves being surfed on this Bukit Peninsular and every-one is fine tuning their surfing for the next big swell.
Bori shooting fish in a barrel [sorry].
The sun is shining, the fish are jumping, the ocean and the beaches are full of barely clad maidens hoping their boyfriends come in from the surf smiling – but the waves are small & inconsistent. Luckily there’s always a cold Bintang or Coke where-ever you go and the fruit salad fresh and delicious.
Even small lines in Bali look lucious and inviting.
I will be staying in Bali now until the contest is held but for now I’m off to Medewi in hope of bigger waves, but with a late departure I expect a sea breeze but am looking forward to visiting a new break with adventure on the way.
Will be updating my blog as soon as there is action & will be enjoying the crystal clear waves of some-where un-crowded…
