The Atlantic’s hurricane season is producing a favorable swell outlook for Long Island, New York |
Travis Logie missed the trials final, but still got a main event spot thanks to Jordy Pulling pin due to injury.
The Quiksilver Pro New York, event No. 6 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title season, is set to begin tomorrow, with the Atlantic’s hurricane season producing a favorable swell outlook for Long Island, New York.
Kelly Slater (USA), 39, reigning 10-time ASP World Champion is one of many surfers looking forward to the week ahead, “It looks like we’ll have some waves for New York which will be great. It will definitely be different.”
Slater will face Daniel Ross (AUS), 28, and local wild card Balaram Stack (USA), 19, in the opening round of competition.
Currently sitting number 2 on the World Title Rankings is Jordy Smith who has withdrawn from competition, citing a rib injury sustained last week in Tahiti. Smith’s replacement is fellow South African and good friend Travis Logie.
Other big news is the inclusion of Dane Reynolds and Bobby Martinez, to Californian surfers to have missed the bulk of the 2011 season.
Even organizers are looking at a possible 7:30am start (local time) – 1:52:21 a.m (EST)
Asher Nolan (USA), 32, took out the Quiksilver Pro New York ASP World Tour Trials today and has earned himself a spot in the main event. Nolan will face Mick Fanning (AUS), 31, and Heitor Alves (BRA), 29, in the opening round of competition.
