DAY 6 – Haleiwa and the family jammers

Surfed with Barton at Sunset for the early… We were having heaps of fun and Barton (who was ripping), Dad and Me were out the back and talking about how good Pancakes for Breakfast would be. We were so hungry… We went in after an epic morning session and met mum on the beach and she said she was heading back to the house to make “Pancakes”, Yew!!! How good is that… Surf Sunset and then eat Pancakes – I’m in Heaven.

After breakfast we loaded up the car and headed to Haleiwa, we stopped at Foodland for Coffees and Hot Chocs and there we saw Spillsy (Joel Spillane from Volcom Australia) in the car park… It was good to see him… Spillsy is going to organize a BBQ and hang out at the Volcom house later so we can meet some of the Volcom team… stoked.

Car is loaded up and we head to Haliewa.

Haleiwa is a small town with cool surf shops and real good food…

“Mum, Rasmus and me at the Haliewa bridge.”

We are at the corner surf shop at Haleiwa called “Surf N Sea”. This is were they shot a scene from one of mine and Rasy’s favorite movies… “North Shore”… we watch this movie all the time.

This was where Rick Cane meets Turtle… The Movie “North Shore”

Haleiwa break sign post and Kyuss channeling Rick Kane from North Shore.

We cruised around Haleiwa checking out the shops and stuff… we came to this place that had hundreds of surfboards outside painted with waves and underwater scenes, most of the boards have cut out sections with sea creatures… It was so cool… We walked into the yard and an 11 year old boy came out and greeted us… Ron Jnr, he told us all about the surfboard art and took us into his house. The house was full of instruments and the whole lounge area was used for recording and Jamming… We meet his dad “Ron Artis” senior, he was sitting in a barber chair watching the football, he has 11 kids… 6 boys and 5 girls… They’re all musicians and are known as the largest family band on you tube… You can watch them Jam in the afternoons… they rock out big time. I asked the boy what instrument he plays? He said all of them, he sings too. Check the link, He’s the kid on percussions… He is ripping…

We got home at 5-ish… Sunset looked like it had some fun runners.
Me, Dad, and Barton got our boards and headed out for a late.
There were heaps of crew in the water… It had a bit of a heavy vibe out there… I saw some heavy locals yelling and dad saw a guy send someone in.

I saw Jay Adams (famous skater from Dog Town and Z boys) out there as well… He was ripping. It was so cool to surf Sunset with him.
I caught heaps of waves and we all surfed till absolute darkness… We were the last ones out of the water.

We had the best day again and saw some cool stuff and had 2 epic surfs.

I wrote my blog with help from dad while dad picked the dread locks out of my hair (mum’s request).

Day over and off to bed…

Yew… Hawaii rocks… Another epic day.

Seven free surfers embarked on a voyage to boldly go where no man had gone before.

Not that long ago, in an island chain far, far away, seven free surfers embarked on a voyage to boldly go where no man had gone before. Equipped with an array of surfboards, a packet of crayons and two ukuleles, their chances of success were slim. In pursuit of perfection, they were forced to navigate under the radar of a fleet of imperial boat charters. Despite numerous obstacles, the rebel alliance of wave-riding beatniks continued to make Galactik Tracks into a new surfing cosmos; their search for a Nirvana reaching its climax when they arrived at… The Island of Nowhere.

The film features the enigmatic and free-thinking Dave Rastovich at home on the Far North Coast of NSW.

Gathering is a short film from independent filmmaker Nathan Oldfield, the creator of the award-winning left of centre surf films Lines From a Poem, Seaworthy and The Heart & The Sea. The film features the enigmatic and free-thinking Dave Rastovich at home in the sacred playgrounds of the Far North Coast of New South Wales. The film explores Rastovich’s ideas around how the tension between the industrial and the natural in the surfing world unfolds in that place. Ultimately, Gathering celebrates how diversity and difference in ecosystems, relationships and surfing contribute to the preciousness of life. Gathering is easy on the eyes and ears and Tracks Magazine is proud to present it to you. Nathan Oldfield is a maverick, a filmmaker who wants a surf movie to say something important, to move us and make us grateful for the sea around us and the life within us.
