Nine-year-old grommet takes us on a Hawaiian adventure most kids (and adults) can only dream about. |
INTRO: Like most surf obsessed grommets Kyuss King lives to ride waves. When told he was going to Hawaii for a holiday Kyuss took it upon himself to write a blog each day he was away. It was a big deal going to Hawaii you see – not just because of his young age – but because he was staying with 1988 world champion Barton Lynch. So from base camp at BL’s house (nestled behind Sunset Beach) join us daily as Kyuss takes us on a fun filled Hawaiian adventure most kids (and adults) can only dream about.

DAY 4 – Big time shopping
I woke up early.
Quick run down the track to check out front at Backyards… Fun 3 foot waves, super clean conditions.
I bolted back home and the whole family went down to Velzy for the early session, there were heaps of other grom’s out there… In Hawaii they don’t have school on Fridays. Yep??? Siiiick… 3-day weekend for Hawaiian grom’s. I’m moving here…
Back home for a midday chill and waiting for Barton’s mate Buddy to pick us up and take us to the South Side to Pearl City so we can hire a car.

We hired a car from VIP cars… Dodgy place. The car we hired is a bit of a wreck, but is good for cruising the North Shore. Low Key. It has air con!!! Dad and all the boards are in the front and we all squeeze in the back… Dad wont let mum drive?
We went straight from the car hire to a place called Costco… A MASSIVE warehouse shopping centre,
Costco is so big!!! Trolly’s are big, everything is big.

We ate so much food for free in the store… Free taste testing on every isle.
We all ate lunch and dinner for free at the food tasting booths… My brother Ras would just stand near the booth and stay and eat and eat and eat… He had to get dragged away from each booth by Mum or Dad… Ras cost that store some profits… Ras can eat…
We spent heaps on food… Barton’s fridge and cupboards are going to be real full…. Dad and Barton love supplies… They were so happy about the shop… And the price of Beer.
We got back home real late in the arvo… I wanted to get another surf in… I ran through the track to “Backyards” The surf looked fun, still clean…… We all bolted down to Velzy for a late and came in when it was sooooo dark…
The water is so warm… The weather is all time!!! Paradise.
When we came in it was black dark… no photos… just Mum and Dad trying to find the track back to the car…
Back home for a huge cook off… Big Pasta… Chocolate ice cream… Costco rules…
Food settled… straight to bed… smashed….
