A high ankle sprain has forced John John Florence to withdraw from the Fiji Pro. The injury went down after the Rio event wrapped during a freesurf with Filipe Toledo. You can imagine the pair were throwing caution to the wind and lighting up memory cards with alley oops for John’s upcoming film.
Many would say it was inevitable. The highlight reels that the likes of Filipe, John, Julian and Jordy provide don’t come without consequence. All at some point have sat on the sidelines with an ankle or knee wrapped in ice. It’s just a shame it happened to John on the eve of one of his, and our, favourite events.
“It’s pretty sore, so I don’t think I could tape it up and force it,” said Florence. “Fiji’s not gonna happen, but J-Bay is my goal.”
