The good people at SurfAid have been dedicated to providing support for women and children in remote areas of Indonesia for over two decades. More recently they have broadened the scope of their charity work to include Mexico and the Solomon Islands – all of the regions they engage with are connected to surfing.
The SurfAid Cup is one of the most original charity initiatives on the calendar. People and businesses from all industries are encouraged to take part in a one-day tag team event. The team that secures the most funding gets to pick first from the pool of pro surfers who volunteer their time to participate in the event. This year progressive beverage company, Dr V, has leant some kick to the event by donating funds and ensuring competitors are fuelled up on their health-focused, nutrition-jammed, energy drinks.
The SurfAid Cup will be held at Bondi on May 7 and Tracks have assembled a team of local specialists to take on a strong field. Frequent flyer Beau Walker, carve-master Curt Bate, lip-slugger Sage Gubbay, and the salty-boned editor, Luke Kennedy will be doing battle in Bondi for Tracks.
In the meantime, we are striving to raise as much money as we can for a worthy cause. So many of the problems experienced by marginalized communities can be solved by improving access to the core elements of SurfAid’s Mother and Child Health Programs – clean water & sanitation, basic healthcare, and nutrition.
