Huntington Beach local Brett Simpson captured swinging left on a particularly salacious green back. |
While Mick Fanning and his fellow finalist’s were doing the right-hand hack-thing back at Bells, a dejected group of surfers scored peaky Thirteenth Beach. Light offshore winds and a rising-tide, on top of a five-foot swell, eased the pain of their omission from the pointy end of the Rip Curl Pro. In the shot featured, Huntington Beach local Brett Simpson is captured swinging left on one particularly salacious green back. Photographer Nate Smith was so close to Simpo’s board that he got lipped in the head straight after. “I was shooting full frame 70 ml (on a 70-200 zoom lens),” Nate told Tracksmag.com. “And when you’re that close there’s no time to do anything but cop the wave in the face…” Ah, the pay off and the pain.
Thanks Smithy!
