Through the late 70s and 80s Hot Stuff surfboards became one of the most iconic brands in surfing. Now the history, stories and myriad characters linked to the label founded by Paul Hallas have inspired a feature length documentary.
Piloted by some of the world’s best surfers and featuring dazzling sprays, Hot Stuff rides became objects of pure desire. Rabbit Bartholomew earned much of his early fame riding his Hot Stuff, Bugs Bunny design, while a host of other elite surfers rode to glory on Hot Stuff boards. Gary Elkerton’s animated power approach evolved on Hot Stuff boards and Al Byrne transformed his channel bottom design into a revolutionary concept with Hot Stuff.
The House of Hot Stuff, which is due for release later this year, features interviews and insights from a broad, cross–section of surfing’s most colourful identities. It promises to be an insightful and entertaining journey into an Australian board company that had a massive influence on surfing performance and surf culture.
House of Hot Stuff Features: Bob Hurley, Mark Richards, Jack McCoy, Peter Townend “PT”, Gary “Kong” Elkerton Neal Purchase Snr, Darryl “Deep” Parkinson, Joel “Parko” Parkinson Peter Harris (1980 Stubbies champ) Nick Carroll, Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew, Gill Glover, Fernando Aguerre and Tommy Peterson.
