Now this is one you don’t want to miss! Today, the World Surf League (WSL) Big Wave Tour placed the Puerto Escondido Challenge on Green Alert to commence on Friday, June 24 (Saturday 25th in OZ) and potentially run through Saturday June 25 (Sunday June 26th in Oz), with a projected 30-foot-plus swell heading toward the region.
“The swell we’ve been tracking from the South Pacific has intensified and we’ve called the Puerto Escondido Challenge on for a Friday start,” said Peter Mel, WSL BWT Commissioner. “We’re looking at 30-foot-plus waves projected for the day with favourable winds and tides.”
“We are very excited to the get the 2016/2017 BWT season underway,” continued Mel. “We have the best big wave surfers on the planet traveling to Mexico from all over the world in anticipation of the event. Puerto Escondido is a heavy and challenging break that will test the competitors and set the tone for this season. We’re excited. It’s on!
