WATCH: Behind The Cover- Tracks Issue 589

Photographer Ryan ‘Chachi’ Craig talks us through the #589 cover shot of Noa Deane, which was shot at Off The Wall last winter.

Reading Time: 1 minute

“I’ve had the opportunity to stay at the Volcom House for the past six or so winters, but for whatever reason I’ve never timed my visits with Noa Deane. This year has been different though. With a bunch of variety in the forecast, we’ve finally had the opportunity to work together, and it’s been insane. Noa is a photographer’s dream. He’s happy to punt massive airs or pull into huge tubes, he just enjoys surfing and it shows. This day there was a bit more north swell in the water, so OTW came alive; the early morning light there is phenomenal. I saw Noa on the bike path heading back to the (Volcom) house while I was headed out for a swim, and I asked him if he’d be keen for another try? He was happy to give it another hour for my camera and we linked up on this wave ten minutes after getting back out there. What a treat.”
