THE LOCAL NEWS SOURCE WAS QUICK TO ADD THAT “WHITE POINTERS ARE KNOWN TO BE DOMINANT IN THE AREA” BUT IF THIS THING TOOK A BITE AT YOUR LEG YOU’D BE PRETTY LUCKY TO STILL BE HERE TODAY.
A local surfer has been knocked off his board and then ‘mauled’ by a shark at Conspicious Beach.
Conspicious Beach sits less than 50 kays from Denmark, an area of Western Australia famous for its numerous slabs.
It’s been reported by a local news source (Perth Now) that the surfer’s leg was “badly savaged” when the shark bit him on the knee. However, the injury was “not believed to be life threatening”. An ambulance crew from Walpole (around 15 mins west of Conspicious Beach) tended the surfer’s wounds before rushing him to Albany Hospital (about one hour’s drive further south), where he underwent surgery.
The type of shark involved in the attack is not yet clear, but the news source was quick to add that “white pointers are known to be dominant in the area”.
Our thoughts and wishes for a speedy recovery are with the surfer and his family.
