The Sandpit is a radio show that goes to air on community radio station Bay FM out of Byron Bay. Hosted by local surfers Danny Salfield and Danny Moffatt, The show takes a loose and humorous look at the world of surfing and all it entails. The show has been growing in popularity of late and has even been attracting some surfing names of note as they blow through the town.
Most recently the duo hosted Dean Morrison, Makua Rothman and Koa Rothman. The boys talked about their time in Oz, in particular a recent session they shared at Ours. Morrison then went on to give a rundown of how the wave came to be known as Ours, and its general history. This included the generally accepted mainstream version in which surfers from Maroubra were basically the first to surf it, having taken it over from a crew of bodyboarders.
However, it seems that not everyone agrees with Dingo’s version of events. This includes Cronulla local and Ours regular Matthew Cook. A fired up Matthew was next to appear on the show and he was determined to set the record straight on the history of the wave, as well as make his and many other Cronulla local’s feelings on the upcoming Red Bull Cape Fear event known. They’re not fans if you were wondering. Listen in to hear the exchange here.
