The junior world champ Lauara Enever is coming of age.

The 2009 O’Neill Cup which was rescheduled due to poor conditions last December will be held on Sunday 18th April with Boardriding Clubs from all over NSW trying to stop North Narrabeen’s strangle hold on tag team surfing. The junior version of the Surftag Series will be held at Avalon Beach with 5 junior surfers per team given a rare chance to compete in the tag team format.

North Narrabeen are the defending champions and with their Open men’s and women’s teams claiming Australian Titles earlier this season the North Narrabeen junior team has been strengthened with the inclusion of 2009 World Junior Champion Laura Enever. It will be the first time Enever has represented North Narrabeen Boardriders and the first time a female has competed in the O’Neill Cup.

The North Narrabeen team will also include Dave Vlug, Cooper Chapman, Bodie Smith and Jordy Lawler whilst Davey Cathels and Tyler Hutchinson who both starred in last years winning team are unavailable due to overseas commitments.

Cooper Chapman’s airs know no bounds

One Club in particular that will be out to stop North Narrabeen will be the locals, North Avalon Surfing Association (NASA) who finished a close second in last season’s final.

NASA Team Manager Hamish Nelson said “North Narrabeen is always hard to beat, this is a good fun event with surfers from Avalon and Narrabeen good mates who surf together a lot”.
The NASA team will include Dylan Cram, Harry Vann and Chris Salisbury.

Joining NN and NASA in the junior club battle will be Ulladulla, Werri Beach, South End Maroubra, Maroubra, North Steyne, Queenscliff, Freshwater, Curl Curl, Dee Why, Mona Vale, Newport, Avoca, North Shelley, Norah Head and Southbridge.

Competition will begin at 7.30am with the final scheduled for 3.30pm. The winning team will receive $1200 with an overall prize pool of $3000.

Past winners of the O’Neill Cup include 2008 North Narrabeen, 2007 North Narrabeen, 2006 Not Contested, 2005 Queenscliff and 2004 Maroubra.

The O’Neill Cup is proudly supported by FCS, Sanyo, Swellnet, Tracks and Global Surftag.

Seven free surfers embarked on a voyage to boldly go where no man had gone before.

Not that long ago, in an island chain far, far away, seven free surfers embarked on a voyage to boldly go where no man had gone before. Equipped with an array of surfboards, a packet of crayons and two ukuleles, their chances of success were slim. In pursuit of perfection, they were forced to navigate under the radar of a fleet of imperial boat charters. Despite numerous obstacles, the rebel alliance of wave-riding beatniks continued to make Galactik Tracks into a new surfing cosmos; their search for a Nirvana reaching its climax when they arrived at… The Island of Nowhere.

The film features the enigmatic and free-thinking Dave Rastovich at home on the Far North Coast of NSW.

Gathering is a short film from independent filmmaker Nathan Oldfield, the creator of the award-winning left of centre surf films Lines From a Poem, Seaworthy and The Heart & The Sea. The film features the enigmatic and free-thinking Dave Rastovich at home in the sacred playgrounds of the Far North Coast of New South Wales. The film explores Rastovich’s ideas around how the tension between the industrial and the natural in the surfing world unfolds in that place. Ultimately, Gathering celebrates how diversity and difference in ecosystems, relationships and surfing contribute to the preciousness of life. Gathering is easy on the eyes and ears and Tracks Magazine is proud to present it to you. Nathan Oldfield is a maverick, a filmmaker who wants a surf movie to say something important, to move us and make us grateful for the sea around us and the life within us. His films are quiet, beautiful and brimming with sacred purpose. Tim Winton, Acclaimed Australian Novelist
