Nine-year-old grommet takes us on a Hawaiian adventure most kids (and adults) can only dream about. |
INTRO: Like most surf obsessed grommets Kyuss King lives to ride waves. When told he was going to Hawaii for a holiday Kyuss took it upon himself commit to writing a blog each day he was away. It was a big deal going to Hawaii you see – not just because of his young age – but because he was staying with 1988 world champion Barton Lynch. So from base camp at BL’s house (nestled behind Sunset Beach) join us daily as Kyuss takes us on a fun filled Hawaiian adventure most kids (and adults) can only dream about.
Note for Parents: This is a grommet specific 10 part summer holiday special with totally kid safe content.

DAY 7 – Haunted boat rides and jump rocks
Today was the smallest day since we arrived… so we checked out other stuff on the Island.
Dad took us down to Lanieakea which is a fun right but on the shore line it is famous for it’s sea turtles.
We got there and there was no one on the beach… just us and the sea turtles. They were everywhere… We put on our snorkeling gear and spent the morning swimming with the turtles.
The sea turtles come in and feed on the seaweed… It was insane to watch this… Like being in a documentary…
What a morning… Amazing.
Up close with a turtle.
We left turtle cove and headed to Wiamea jump rock… Here in the background you can see the Wiamea church…
Dad and Rasmus about to launch off the jump rock…. Rasmus loved it and did it a couple of times… He is a 4 year old freak…
We did heaps of jumps… Such good fun… My little bro Rasmus is a legend for doing it.
After we got back we got ready for the Haunted Boat ride at the Polynesian Cultural Centre at a town called Liea (on the East Coast)
The Haunted boat ride… Rasmus wasn’t into it… Rasmus will jump off Wiamea jump rock – but hates scary guys in scary masks.
“Scary head on a stick at the boat ride and dad and Rasmus about to jump.”
The boat takes you on a 25 minute horror ride in the darkness… There are zombies and freaks trying to get us or into our boat when we go down the river… Everyone on the boat got scared and everyone screamed!!!!… So heavy.
Back home and ready for bed after an epic day… The sleeping arrangements were changed due to the haunted boat ride… I was sleeping with mum and Rasmus was sleeping with dad…
Halloween is so huge on the North Shore, It’s biggest party is in our area at Sunset Beach… Heaps of kids and they make the whole area a scare zone and Halloween party….. We are getting ready for Halloween coming up real soon……. They wont be able to scare us after the Boat trip….
Day 9 over… No surf but still we had the best day!!! So much to do and see on the North Shore if you get the locals tips.
Off to bed with one eye open… ha.
