Nine-year-old grommet takes us on a Hawaiian adventure most kids (and adults) can only dream about. |
INTRO: Like most surf obsessed grommets Kyuss King lives to ride waves. When told he was going to Hawaii for a holiday Kyuss took it upon himself to write a blog each day he was away. It was a big deal going to Hawaii you see – not just because of his young age – but because he was staying with 1988 world champion Barton Lynch. So from base camp at BL’s house (nestled behind Sunset Beach) join Kyuss as he takes us on a fun filled Hawaiian adventure most kids (and adults) can only dream about.
Note for Parents: This is a grommet specific 10 part summer holiday special with totally kid safe content.

DAY 5 – Water world
Got up early and headed to Star Bucks for Dad’s coffee fix and ice chocolate fix.
Then we went straight to V-Land and surfed all morning, waves were small but some fun ones… Dad took out his water proof camera to try and get a couple of shots…
Just as dad got out there the battery went flat… Only got 2 average shots… Its not a very good camera… just a small pocket type… anyway waves and session was real fun…
Velzy is sooooo fun… It’s like a water skate park… I check it every day… I love Velzy…
“Rasmus practicing his grab rail cut backs on the Velzy shore line… He’s a little foamer praying to Huey for a shorey to form… and getting his crack brown in the meantime.”
Home for lunch……. everyone was laying around resting, so I went on the bike and did another surf check on my own… I rode to Sunset and then back to Velzy.. Waves were still small… A bit too small….. When the waves are small…. we skate.
We called Barton’s mate Troy and organized to go skate and film at the skate bowl across the road from Rock Piles… Such a siiiiick park… It started raining just as we got there…. typical… so we didn’t skate. We piled into Troy’s truck and took a ride down to the East Coast, Troy showed us some Big wave spots and some secret spots for me when it’s small but good wave magnet spots… Epic. Troy is a champ…
Got home at 5.30 pm… getting dark…. so we bolted for a surf out Sunset… We all rode guns… I rode a 6’6”, Dad rode a 9’6” and Barton rode a 10’1”… we went out “Backyards” caught a couple and then paddled down to Sunset Point. I had the best fun out there riding the gun… It picks up waves so much easier than my short board… That was my first go on a gun… siiiiiick…… we surfed till dark and were the last ones out of the water at Sunset… So good…
“Rasmus supporting Coco Ho [hat] at her home break… This is the 9’6″ that Dad rode.”
Back home for some Dinner, Mexican!!! The house was on farrrrrtt alert…
Everyone was tired from surfing, swimming, so we all were chillin on lounge watching old cartoons… Tom and Jerry.
9.10pm… Off to do daily blog with Dad… It’s like my home work while I’m away… it’s fun though cause we get to talk about our day before bed… We laugh and we think of what we can do tomorrow… I say surf.
Blog is done in 20mins and then off to bed.
Day 6 Over and out… zzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzz
