‘CRYSTAL VOYAGER’ AND ‘ECHOES’ BACK ON THE BIG SCREEN: ARE YOU A GEORGE GREENOUGH DISCIPLE OR A PINK FLOYD FAN?

Long before John John and Torren Martyn set sail, George Greenough enchanted audiences with his nautically themed surf film, ‘Crystal Voyager’. Released in 1973, the movie was brilliantly crafted by David Elfick and Albe Falzon in the wake of their success with ‘Morning of The Earth’. Narrated by Greenough, ‘Crystal Voyager’ provides a revealing insight into George’s practical and creative gifts, along with his ability to look to nature for inspiration. “I base my design on high-performance fish (the animals not the boards) and how they move through the ocean,” he states in the film. Featuring George and Nat Young enjoying magic waves in isolated settings the movie plays to the theme of surfing escapism, while documenting the practical challenges associated with rigging up a boat for an epic surf journey.

The final bonus section of the film, ‘Echoes’, famously features a Pink Floyd soundtrack. Showcasing George’s pioneering, POV footage ‘Echoes’ becomes a kind of transcendental cinematic experience – a full trip.

To fully appreciate ‘Crystal Voyager – Echoes’ you have to see it on the big screen. It’s a 4K Redux from the original 35 mm film masters, with full cinema surround sound – reproduced to 4K cine-academy brilliance.
