Mitch Crews didn’t have the J-Bay event he had imagined. Falling in Round 2 to fellow Australian Adrian Buchan in lumpy Supertubes must have stung the rookie. But upon arriving back in Australia he was greeted with a much hyped south swell charging up the east coast over the weekend. “It was meant to be eight to ten foot yesterday!” recalls photographer Simon Muirhead. “I drove all the way to Lennox to find it big but super mushy. I got back to D-Bah and it was solid four foot and pumping. Mitch is a machine, he is there every day training no matter how big or small …. he’s always out there!”
