If you’ve put in some hours out in the water on east coast this week, particularly anywhere from Newcastle to the south coast, then you can probably attest to the eerie vibe and active sea life that has been permeating the line-up. Jumping and thrashing fish everywhere, a Great White taking up residence and munching Dolphins in Newcastle, multiple sightings and shark alarms on both Sydney’s northern and eastern beaches, and now there has been a reported non-fatal attack at Mollymook on the south coast.
Just before midday paramedics received a call, which informed them a 17-year-old had reportedly been bitten on the hand by a shark while spearfishing off Bannisters Point located at the northern end of the beach.
He was treated at the scene for lacerations to his fingers and hand before being transported to Milton Ulladulla hospital in a stable condition.
