Longboard surfer Namaala Slabb takes us to the past, present and future as she dissects the act and art of nose-riding. Anyone who’s been brave enough to give nose-riding a go, knows it’s a lot harder than the pros make it look. Namaala, explains the history of nose-riding and why she’s always been curious about what she calls the “surf dance”. Then shows us how the subtle surf technique is done, with appearance of other nose ride experts such as Belinda Baggs, Josie Prendergast and Dave Rastovich. Patagonia ambassador and writer Lauren L Hill makes her directorial debut, which she also is seen surfing in. Hill explains her thought process of why she created the short film.
“I made ‘The Physics of Noseriding’ for folks who appreciate the subtler arts of the surfing experience. Those who want to better understand how the magic levitation of a proper noseride is possible, I hope people feel inspired to follow their own curiosities, and to go surfing – especially to get out there and hang hip!”
Hey, why not give the nose-ride a go in your next longboard sesh?
