When Deadman’s turns on, it becomes a full circus. Hundreds line the cliff on Sydney’s Northern Beaches to get a peak at the action. Seasoned chargers come from each end of the city’s beaches and an increasing amount of grommets continue to try their luck at taming the slab with an evil step in it.
The Sydney slab showed its teeth last weekend. It was the first time it had done so this season and a number of crew were on hand to give it a crack including Hawaiian big wave surfer Koa Rothman and other local standouts such as Tommy Myers and Lex O’Connor. While the swell ended up being too south for it to be all time, there was still plenty of carnage going down.
Northern Beaches filmer Cal Fawle, also known as ‘Thrills N Spillz’, was on hand to capture the action. Here’s what he wrote about the 22 minute short film:
“From early setups and paddle outs, to wipeouts, makes and everything in between… plus behind-the-scenes moments and interviews with the local crew of Northern Beaches lords who were out there.”
