When Jordy Smith claims it’s the best surf of his life, you instantly stop what you’re doing and pay attention. This is no clickbait YouTube title, it’s a genuine claim from the big saffa who’s spent a lifetime scoring waves on and off tour.
The latest offering on his YouTube channel is almost seven minutes of pumping right hand tubes close to where he grew up in Durban. We know waves in that zone can cook when the conditions align, but this took it up a few notches. Who better to stuff themselves in some SA drain pipes then the man who has carried the country on his back on for almost two decades on the World Championship Tour.
Jordy finished 3rd on last season’s CT after being ousted by Griffin Colapinto at the Final Five in Fiji. The 6ft3 powerhouse will be hoping for another shot at his first world title when the CT seasons starts again in April.
