The Challenger Series is notoriously brutal. It’s a pressure cooker where surfers face off in a cut-throat environment with one thing in mind, making the Championship Tour, the big league. It would be easy as an aspiring CT surfer to get lost in the Challenger Series and alienate yourself. Surfing is a selfish sport, after all. So wouldn’t helping anyone else only add to your detriment? Well, it turns out there are some positives to camaraderie (who woulda thought?) and the Aussie’s on the CS have indeed discovered that. While their rival countrymen take to the CS on their lonesome, the Aussie’s have become a team, and it is paying off. With 7 or 8 Aussie’s in with a shot of CT qualification, it’s clear that whatever they’re doing is working. Their game plan is to have fun with it, and this clip is an example of just that.
