Russell Bierke is cut from a different cloth to us regular surfers. The South Coast charger’s preference for an ideal surf session is in icy-cold waters with thick waves of consequence on offer.
Two countries where waves like this are fruitful are Russell’s homeland in Oz and the Emerald Isle known as Ireland. In Russell’s new clip, ‘Outer Edge of Leisure’, we get to see his worldwide slab crusades in a cinematic format. It’s an absolute treat to watch one of the world’s best big-wave warriors go to battle against some mammoth walls of water. We also get to see Russell’s rail game in some small-ish waves, which his approach is, you guessed it – fearless.
But the highlight of the flick is when Russ went back to back at Ireland’s version of Backdoor with fellow slab lord- Nate Florence. The clip features new angles of that legendary session from earlier this year, which has no doubt cemented itself in the slab history books.
