When a selection of the world’s best tube riders rolled into Carcavelos in February to compete in the Capitulo Perfeito – a one day specialty event held in pumping beach break conditions – a few of the competitors stuck around for the week and were treated to an all out Portuguese experience.
Joel Parkinson, Craig Anderson, Balaram Stack and Victor Bernardo joined Bruno Santos and Pedro Boonman for five days of pumping waves, fine dining and cultural heritage, hosted by Turismo de Portugal. Tracks was also lucky enough to get an invite to what was the surf trip of a lifetime.
As well as scoring solid Supertubos and trading right hand walls at Coxos, we spent time in the countryside wine tasting, picking our own food and were lucky enough to attend a Benfica football game and experience first hand the passion that the Portuguese have for the beautiful game. Despite the Aussies calling it ‘soccer’ and me having to explain the offside rule to them a couple of times, the smiles on their faces said it all, they couldn’t quite believe the treatment they had been given all week.
