It seems like every corner of the globe is handing out tubes like free meal tickets at the moment. My social media algorithm is littered with cone clips. Every surfer on the East Coast of Australia seems to have scored, from the Gold Coast down to Sydney. The UK has been lit up by back-to-back winter swells and the rest of Europe has also been doing its thing, including Hossegor which has come alive after ‘one of the quietest winters in years’.
Ripitup’s latest YouTube edit is likely to get you surf sense tingling with envy. Here’s what David at Ripitup wrote about the session:
“Last Wednesday delivered the kind of surf locals will remember for a long time. At low tide, La Nord in Hossegor turned into a full-blown barrel machine.
Massive waves, perfectly shaped tubes and powerful lines running down the sandbank. As the tide started pushing, the action shifted to La Gravière, where the sandbank was sitting exactly where surfers dream about it.
Deep caverns, heavy drops and wild barrels all afternoon. Days like this are incredibly rare on this beautiful but notoriously fickle beach break.
After such a timid winter, it feels like we’re witnessing the kind of surf we haven’t seen here in decades.”
