No grand pitch, no glossy bells and whistles – just a young bloke, a filmer and a pile of clips gathered wherever they could make it work. Harry Martin’s latest short ‘Princess’, filmed and pieced together by Mos Milburn, bounces between South Aus, Indo, King Island and Tassie. It’s loose in a good way. You can feel the raw edge to it, a year’s worth of long drives, sleeping rough and doing what ever they had to in order to score with limited budget.
Harry’s surfing fits the brief. There’s a tidy air game in there, quick and clean, but it’s the tube stuff that sticks. What’s more interesting is the way he’s starting to lean on his rail, drawing things out on those long, narrow, 90s-leaning Ben Webb boards. That classic line you’d usually associate with those shapes is still there, but he’s putting his own spin on it – using a bit of youthful flair to loosen it up, add some spark. It’s not forced, just a subtle shift.
