At the start of this year Harry Bryant and Dave Fox the long awaited surf film ‘Motel Hell’ which was the culmination of three years of footage of Haz and friends absolutely charging in a number of remote locations.
Now, in an ode to their creativity and to highlight the effort and time put into the project, the crew have released ‘POSTCARDS FROM MOTEL HELL 1 – Death defying tales from the making of Motel Hell’ which delves deeper into some of the behind the scenes action that went into making the project and features a number of clips and sessions that didn’t quite make the final cut.
The clip is 35 minutes of barrels, beers, milk, unique characters, weird campfire food and plenty of laughter and stories. The storyline throughout the video also includes Harry calling his friends and asking them to reflect on their most scary, insane and interesting moments from their trip.
It’s fair to say the highlight that is a reflection of the trip is when Harry slips a disc in his back during a long drive into the Australian desert. While at a gas station he eats a dodgy dim sum, which gives him food poisoning. This causes him to puke so badly, but while spewing he accidentally realigns his back. Things were looking fine until Haz’s dog, Barry, eats his vomit and proceeds to unleash diarrhea in the car full of people, surfing and camping gear.
Other tales include Wade Goodall’s life threatening scenario where his board gets trapped in an underwater cave and prevents him from making it to the surface, until he eventually managed to hoist himself free. Californian Eithan Osborne also recalls being so scared to surf a remote slab that he almost decorated his wettie brown.
