At 58-years-old, Mark Occhilupo still surfs better than most. His backhand attack is just as sharp as during his prime years on tour, his ability to displace water with such ferociousness remains unmatched and his style while navigating a forehand tube is next to none. Don’t believe me? Well check his latest surf film ‘Occy!’ released in partnership with his long time sponsor Billabong to celebrate their latest collection together.
The film is 11 minutes of vintage Occy as he surfs Bells and Cloudbreak, two waves that played a starring role in his career. The 1999 World Champ still looks so at home on the open face walls of Bells as he carves through each section, with his aggressiveness backhand attack. Occy won two events at Bells in 1997 and 1998 and still describes it as one of his favourite places in the world to surf. As for Fiji, Occy won the World Tour event at Cloudbreak on his way to the 1999 World Title and in his latest film, he still has no problem pulling into some of that raw pacific power.
Here’s what Billabong wrote about the film:
“Mark Occhilupo better known as Occy, The Raging Bull, 1999 World Champ, is one of surfing’s most electrifying icons. Defining an era with raw power, fearless style, and uncompromising individuality.
“Join us as we re-trace the footprints from Occ’s undeniable affinity with the ying & yang contrasts of these two iconic locations Bells & Cloudbreak, encapsulating his eternal stoke for life and display of surfing that can only be described as poetic.”
