Watch: Nathan Cook in ‘Reheat’

A hard drive dump from the Ments, Indo and Snapper.

There’s something satisfying about a surfer emptying the hard drive. No overthinking and a weight off your shoulders that you’re finally making use of your clips. That’s the lane Nathan Cook takes with his latest export ‘Reheat’, a loose but punchy collection pulled from trips to the Ments, Bali, and sessions back home in Australia.

“Yeah the idea behind the edit was just wanting to get the clips out there,” said Nathan. “I had a bunch of clips that I was holding onto for a while from the Ments and was starting to forget about them… just wanted to do something with them.”

The bulk of the footage traces back to a Mentawais run a couple of years ago featuring a stacked boat with names like Oscar Berry, Reef Heazlewood, Billy Keen, Hinata Aizawa, Lennix Smith and Hughie Vaughan. From there, the edit jumps between Snapper sessions, shot not long after the trip, and more recent clips from Bali and around Australia.

The standout? A session at maxing Kandui with the Goat Kelly Slater.

“The highlight for me from the clip is the Kandui waves at the end,” said Nath. “That was the first session of the trip… we pulled up on the boat after doing the crossing the night before and woke to 10ft Kandui and no warmup free surfs… just straight out there in some of the gnarliest waves I’ve ever seen.

“Kelly was out too so it was sick to watch him in some waves of consequence, he was making it look way too easy.”
