When I first met Miguel Blanco, I had drawn him in a heat in the Under 18 division at the ISA European Juniors in Lacanau, France. He smoked me. And now, as I sit here writing this, and my local beachie is two foot and onshore, he’s been chasing waves uncrowded perfection across Africa. Smoked me, indirectly, again.
Miggy’s latest edit ‘Orienta’, filmed by Timmy Toes, sees him spend 12 days in Africa hoping to score a fickle right hand point. After days of getting blown out by sand and dust, they eventually scored.
“We were searching for waves in Africa… and well, we surely found them. At one point, I was absolutely tripping with the waves in front of me and not seeing a single soul around. It was one of the most rewarding moments of my winter,” he said.
“We spent 12 days on location and after getting so blown out by sand and dust, we finally really scored on one of the last days of the trip. During the free time, we put together a fiction story where we include local scenery, characters and culture. One of the coolest projects I’ve done so far.”
